Developing English skills is as much about developing confidence as it is in understanding the techniques needed to master the language and its peculiar nuances. The FRWRD philosophy is to develop students to have a strong command of both spoken and written English as well as help students identify their interests in reading for pleasure.

Mathematical reasoning and mental strategies are the two components that underpin Mathematical success. The FRWRD philosophy is to teach our students to understand ‘why’ a method works, not just ‘how’ to apply it.

Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning exams (Cognitive Ability Tests) are now used in nearly all school entrance exams. FRWRD’s students are taught to use effective deductive reasoning to solve Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning puzzles with an efficient, organised approach to each question. The skills developed not only help the students score well in the exam but assist with general thinking skills that can be applied in day to day life.

General science education gives us an understanding of essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. The FRWRD philosophy is to develop students across foundational knowledge, concepts, scientific tests and processes needed for investigation and scientific reasoning. We encourage our students to recognise the power of rational explanation.

Through Guided Reading lessons, students develop skills that help them read independently and fluently, ensuring that the correct phonic, context and grammatical cues are being applied. FRWRD’s philosophy is to ensure that students not only decode the text accurately but also internalise the information at the same time. By doing this, students will have the insight and confidence to discus the key events and ideas of the text.

Dynamic writing is redundant if it can’t be read. Handwriting should be neat and legible and for many students this can be challenging. At FRWRD we correct bad habits by identifying what makes a student’s penmanship either untidy or laboured. Good handwriting allows children to express their thoughts efficiently and effectively through the written word, developing self-confidence and self-esteem.
